"I believe my child will receive a quality education in Brickton and will be given opportunities not available in other schools. I believe my child will be taught according to his individual needs."
~ Former Parent, Barbara Dudzinski
Toddler (2-3)
An objective of Montessori education is "not to prepare the child for school, but for life," and in our Toddler program this approach is composed of three elements: prepared environment, observation, and non-directive guidance.
Children's House (3-6)
In Children's House, students work with a variety of Montessori materials in a prepared environment designed to meet their developmental and academic needs. Classes are arranged in three-year age groupings, encouraging younger pupils to observe and learn from the older students. In turn, the older students have an opportunity to reinforce their skills by helping their younger classmates.
Lower Elementary (6-9)
At the 6 - 9 level, students are ready and eager to discover the world. In the Toddler and Children's House Programs, they experienced a rapid rate of physical, emotional and cognitive growth, devoting their energy toward building the foundation of basic tools for learning, developing and refining the use of their senses and their bodies.
Upper Elementary (9-12)
In the 9 - 12 Program, students embark on a journey inward, ready to begin to understand their individual relationship to the world. With an awareness of fundamental universal principles, they find themselves questioning how they can personally own what they know. They recognize that rules must be obeyed, and now they want to know why. They explore the notion of choice within a moral and ethical context. They realize the importance of following the rules as critical to a sense of safety within the community, and they are compelled to reach further and examine the personal consequences of consciously making choices that fall into gray areas. What seemed so black and white and clear cut apparently is not necessarily so. There are innumerable what ifs which need to be accounted for.
Middle School (12-14)
Our goal is to provide an environment for adolescents that fosters self confidence, self knowledge, community identity, adaptability, academic competence and initiative, and a personal vision for the future. We believe that through such an environment adolescents can freely and honestly work to realize their potential as valued contributing members of society and work toward a peaceful and holistic world. The different elements which make up the program each play an important role.
