Toddler (2-3 years of age)

Overview

An objective of Montessori education is "not to prepare the child for school, but for life," and in our Toddler program this approach is composed of three elements: prepared environment, observation, and non-directive guidance.

The morning schedule includes snack and an outdoor play period. When the morning activities end at 11:30, the children participate in the hot lunch program with the day ending at noon. Toddlers who stay beyond the morning take a nap after lunch, have a snack, and then continue their activities until they go home.

Toddlers do not need to be toilet trained to participate.  Toilet training is an integral part of our Toddler program.

Eye. Witness.

Eye.Witness.

In a world centered at a child’s eye level, big discoveries are an everyday occurrence. Surrounded by inviting Montessori materials even the youngest child becomes a scientist, an explorer, a philosopher, a teacher—developing skills that are the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

The Toddler classroom allows children to move easily from large muscle movement areas to fine motor exercises. There are plenty of hands-on experiences such as pouring, sweeping, dusting, buttoning, zipping, and table setting.

The children learn to take care of themselves and their surroundings and develop skills communicating with one another.  Children are encouraged to speak, sing, and practice lessons of grace and courtesy.  Toddlers learn to share things and to be considerate of others.
